Or nebulas. I’m not really sure which.

Nebulas(ae) are clouds of gas and dust that form in space. Their sizes can range from huge (hundreds of light years) to very small for interstellar space (millions of miles). Within a nebula, stars and solar systems are formed, like a tiny galaxy. In fact, until the 1920’s, distant galaxies were classified as nebulae. Another word for parts of a nebula that form stars is a Star Forming region. For some reason that sounds like something out of Super Mario Galaxy. Some nebulae can be seen from earth without a telescope.

Nebulae come in infinite shapes and sizes. They can be shaped like crabs, hourglasses, or even peanuts! Nebulae are often considered very beautiful because of their crazy shapes and vibrant colors.

There are five types of nebula. The first is an Emission Nebula, which is given its name because it emits so much light from its star-forming regions. The second is a Dark Nebula, which are so dense that they block out any light from behind. Third is the Reflection Nebula, which does not emit its own light, but reflects it from a nearby star. Fourth is the Planetary Nebula, which is the hardest to explain. Basically, it means that the nebula is full of red giants (old stars that have used up the hydrogen in their cores, swelling and turning red), which gives it a bright red light and sometimes other colors. Fifth is the Supernova Remnants, which is kind of self-explanitory. Star explodes, debris is scattered, nebula is formed.

  1. There are also mixes which occur when various events happen for example, when a Planetary Nebula is being destroyed and becomes a Supernova Remnants Nebula.
